STIA Essendon is a psychology clinic at 172 Buckley Street, a ten minute walk from Essendon Station, where clinical and registered psychologists see adults, young people and families for schema therapy, EMDR, trauma therapy, individual therapy, ADHD assessments and group programs. You can book online in a few minutes, or call and our intake team will match you with the right psychologist for what you are dealing with.

Essendon is our largest clinic and the home of the Schema Therapy Institute, so a consultant psychiatrist and a couples therapist also work from here. Appointments run early mornings and evenings on weekdays, and there is limited free two hour parking out the front.

The clinic is on Buckley Street, a 10 minute walk from Essendon Station. Look for the STIA sign at the front of the building. Access to the clinic is up the wooden ramp down the side of the building.
There is limited free 2 hour parking at the front of the clinic on Buckley Street, and free all day and 1 hour street parking on Daisy Street and other nearby streets.
Use the entrance at the front of the building. The front door and gate are unlocked during the day. If you have an evening appointment and the front gate is locked, wait in your car or at the front and the gate will be unlocked at the time of your appointment.
The waiting room is wheelchair accessible and there is a ramp at the front door. Several rooms are not wheelchair accessible, including the bathroom. Tell our intake team when you book if you have access requirements.
Take a seat in the reception area inside the clinic. Reception is usually attended between 9am and 6pm. If it is unattended, your psychologist will come to get you at the time of your appointment.
21 psychologists work from this clinic, and 9 also see clients by telehealth. Fees are per consultation; a Medicare rebate may apply with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.

Many of the people who come to STIA Essendon live in Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Pascoe Vale, Keilor East, Niddrie and Strathmore, each a short drive or a quick trip on public transport from the clinic. We also see clients from Aberfeldie, Avondale Heights, Airport West, Brunswick West, Coburg, Glenroy, Maribyrnong, Flemington, Tullamarine, Keilor, Sunshine and Footscray. If the trip is not practical, the same psychologists who offer telehealth can see you online.

Each psychologist sets their own consultation fee, shown on their card above and on our team page. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare pays a rebate back to you after each session. The rebate amount depends on whether your psychologist holds a clinical endorsement, so the gap you pay is the fee minus that rebate. Our intake team will tell you the exact fee and rebate before you book.
No. You are welcome to self-refer by booking online or calling us. A GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan are needed only if you want to claim the Medicare rebate. If you have one, send it to intake@stia.com.au before your first appointment so the rebate can be claimed from the first session.
No, STIA does not bulk bill. You pay the full consultation fee on the day. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, the Medicare rebate is processed after your appointment and paid back to you, so the difference between the fee and the rebate is your out of pocket cost.

Yes. Several of the psychologists listed above also see clients by video, and our wider telehealth team is available anywhere in Victoria. Choose telehealth when you book online, or ask our intake team which option suits you.
Yes. Appointments at Essendon run Mon–Thu 7am–8pm, Fri 8:30am–5pm, so you can come before or after work. Each psychologist works set days, shown on their card above, and online booking shows the times that are free.

Your first session is a chance for your psychologist to understand what brings you in, what you want to change and what has helped or not helped before. You will talk through your history and your goals and agree on a plan together. There is nothing you need to prepare, though bringing your referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan, if you have one, means the rebate can be claimed from the first session.
