Does this sound familiar?

You know something feels harder than it should

Many people come to us after years of wondering why certain parts of everyday life seem to require so much effort.

You procrastinate even when something is important to you.

Organisation and everyday tasks can quickly become overwhelming.

You forget things, lose track of tasks or struggle to stay focused.

You can become intensely focused on some things, then struggle to engage with others.

You know you are capable, but your performance can feel frustratingly inconsistent.

You have spent years wondering whether it is ADHD, anxiety, stress or simply you.

An assessment is designed to work out whether ADHD explains these experiences, or whether something else may be contributing.

From uncertainty to understanding

The goal is not simply a label. It is an answer.

Before your assessment

“Why can’t I just get organised?”

“Why do I keep doing this?”

“Is this ADHD, anxiety or something else?”

“Why does everything seem to take so much effort?”

After your assessment

  • Understand whether you meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD
  • Better understand your strengths and difficulties
  • Identify other factors that may be affecting you
  • Receive practical, personalised recommendations
  • Have a clearer pathway for treatment and support

How it works

A clear 3 appointment process

Most ADHD assessments follow three appointments, with a clear purpose at each stage.

1

Appointment 1: Clinical interview

We talk through your history, current difficulties and what has led you to seek an ADHD assessment. We also determine whether proceeding with the full assessment is appropriate.

2

Appointment 2: Assessment

You complete the relevant standardised questionnaires and cognitive assessment so we can build a comprehensive picture of how you function.

3

Appointment 3: Results and recommendations

We go through your results, diagnosis where applicable, your written report and personalised recommendations for what to do next.

Most assessments follow this 3 appointment process. Additional assessment may occasionally be recommended depending on individual circumstances.

Medication pathway

Fast pathway to a psychiatrist if you want to explore medication

If your assessment supports an ADHD diagnosis and you would like to explore medication, you can continue with STIA’s in house consultant psychiatrist.

Because your psychologist has already completed a comprehensive assessment and report, the psychiatrist can review that diagnosis and clinical information rather than requiring you to start the assessment process again.

One connected pathway through STIA

Complete your psychological assessment first.

Then, if you choose to explore medication, move directly to psychiatric review using your completed assessment and report.

This can provide a faster and more streamlined route to seeing a psychiatrist than seeking a new assessment pathway elsewhere.

Comprehensive

We consider your history, current difficulties, cognitive profile and the broader context of your life.

Neuroaffirming

We recognise both strengths and challenges and focus on understanding rather than judgement.

ADHD symptoms can overlap with anxiety, trauma, sleep difficulties and other experiences. We consider these possibilities carefully.

A pathway forward

Your report includes tailored recommendations, with access to STIA’s in house consultant psychiatrist if you want to explore medication.

Common questions

ADHD assessment FAQs

Do I need to know that I have ADHD before booking?

No. Many people come to us precisely because they are unsure. The purpose of the assessment is to understand whether ADHD is the best explanation for what you are experiencing.

Do you assess children and adolescents?

Yes. We provide ADHD assessments for children aged 6 and over, adolescents and adults. Depending on the individual, additional information or assessment may occasionally be recommended.

Do I need to book with a psychiatrist?

Not necessarily. Your ADHD assessment is completed by a psychologist.

If, at the end of the assessment, you would like to explore medication, STIA has an in house consultant psychiatrist who can review your assessment and diagnosis.

Because the assessment and comprehensive report have already been completed, this can provide a faster and more streamlined pathway to psychiatric review than starting the process again elsewhere.

What if my difficulties are caused by something other than ADHD?

Part of a comprehensive assessment is considering other possible explanations, including anxiety, trauma, sleep difficulties and other factors that can produce overlapping symptoms.

Can a psychologist prescribe ADHD medication?

No. Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. If your assessment supports an ADHD diagnosis and you want to explore medication, you can continue to psychiatric review through STIA.

Will I receive a written report?

Yes. The assessment includes a comprehensive diagnostic report with personalised recommendations.

How quickly can I start?

First ADHD assessment appointments are usually available within approximately 2 weeks.

Ready for some clarity?

Stop wondering and start understanding.

If you have been questioning whether ADHD could explain the way you think, learn, work or manage everyday life, an assessment can give you a clearer answer and a plan for what comes next.

First appointments are usually available within 2 weeks.
